Fort Hunt Park Announces FREE Summer Concert Lineup…

Free events range from jazz to pop

to world music…

By Rachel Leonard

It’s almost time for the free summer concert series at Fort Hunt Park! Bring a blanket, a picnic basket and the family dog as concerts begin in June at the “A Pavilion,” at the south end of Fort Hunt Road.

The concerts are courtesy of the National Park Service and will be held Sundays at 7 p.m., weather permitting.

Owen Hammett, a volunteer for NPS who took the lead in this summer series, called the concerts acts of public service.

“They started nearly 30 years ago, having consecutive Sunday evenings,” Hammett said. They’re from 7 to 8, and they had done this just for a long time. It’s been a tradition for a lot of families in Fort Hunt to do that on a summer evening.”

This summer’s Sunday evenings concert lineup is:

June:
3: Cold Fusion Jazz Quartet
10: Shenandoah Sound (Drum and bugle choir)
17: Emy Tseng (Jazz and Brazilian vocals)
24: Main Street (Variety of music)

July:
1: American Balalaika Symphony (Eastern European)
8: Black Moon Tonic (Pop and crossover country, with some jazz)
15: Hot Society Orchestra of Washington (Music from 1920s through ’40s)
22: National Concert Band
July 29 : Cosine (Jazz, hip-hop, rock)
