Mission
-Philippine Independence Day History-

On the Fourth of July, we celebrate American Independence. July 4th is, however, also a day to celebrate the beginning of the modern Philippines. July 4th has become known as “Filipino American Friendship Day”, the day the Philippines celebrate independence from Japanese occupation and American colonization. Since the Philippine Islands are also one of the partners in the effort to bring terrorists to justice, it is even more important this year to remember our friendship and alliance with the people of the Philippines.

Ferdinand Magellan landed on an island called Homonhon in 1521 and found a land filled with white beaches, unexplored isles, untouched forests, rich lands, and a spectacular climate. Magellan claimed it and named it “Felipinas”, after the King Philip of Spain.

When the Spanish conquistadors arrived, they began converting and colonizing the people of the islands. They found the islands were a cultural melting pot, with well-developed business settlements with Chinese, Arabs, Japanese, and other Islamic seafaring merchants. In 1571, the Spaniards established a colonial government in Manila and ruled the country for over 300 years.

In 1896, Filipinos rose up in rebellion and successfully led Asia’s first nationalistic revolution. After several attempts, they freed themselves from the yoke of the Spanish rule. On June 12, 1896, the people of the Philippines enjoyed their first Independence Day. For many, that date remains the actual Independence Day for the Philippines.

While they were freed from Spanish rule, after the Spanish-American War, the Philippines fell under the colonial rule of the United States. The Americans did, however, introduce democratic processes and public education, and they developed infrastructure throughout the islands as well.

Japanese rule until 1945, when American and Filipino-American forces liberated them. Only July 4, 1946, they were declared an independent nation for the first time since 1571.

Reformist President, Diosdado Macapagal, returned Philippine Freedom Day to the June 12th date. He felt that the Fourth of July activities in the United States overshadowed the Philippine independence celebration, so he declared July 4th Filipino American Friendship Day” in the islands.

Description:
this is just something for the Meg&Dia fans. I love them a lot. probably my favourite band. :) Meg & Dia are an indie rock band formed in Draper, Utah. Originally founded by Korean American sisters Dia (vocals) and Meg Frampton (guitar and backing vocals), the sisters are now accompanied by bassist Aaron McMurray and drummer Nick Price.

Meg & Dia self-released their debut album, Our Home Is Gone, in 2005, which featured a mostly acoustic style of music, and toured extensively in support of it, sharing stages with such national acts as Limbeck, The Format, Melee, Koufax, and Steel Train.

In the fall of 2005 they signed to Doghouse Records, and in January 2006 recorded a second album, Something Real, with producer Stacy Jones of American Hi-Fi. As a teaser for the album, Meg & Dia released an EP titled What is It? A Fender Bender., on both iTunes and the Tower Records website in July of 2006. What is It? A Fender Bender. featured Monster and Indiana, which were originally acoustic songs, and would also be part of their upcoming album. That album was soon-after released on August 08, 2006. Something Real is made up both new works and some re-written versions of previous songs.

The band has gained in popularity after self-promotion via MySpace.com; they were selected as the official MySpace band on the 2006 Warped Tour. They were also included in the ’100 Bands You Need To Know In 2006′ in the April 2006 edition of Alternative Press magazine.See More

My friend Jeff Bernat requested if I could write a song for a project he’s recording (about to be released Dec. 1) few months back. This is the song that I came up with and his version will be out soon (so check it out when it does!). This track is the demo track I did but I also added more background vocals. So yes, it’s yours for free! Go download it NOW! Shout out to J Cowell for playing the keys and co-creating this song with me.

Hope y’all enjoy.

Distinguished beatbox champion, Leejay, has been perfecting the art of beatboxing for years. Living everywhere from Florida, to Germany to Sacramento, CA, Leejay collects his experiences to continuously advance his already remarkable beatboxing skills. As a popular local artist, performances are permanently in demand. Leejay’s unique talent and ability to keep the rare hip hop art form alive have been responsible in creating a media buzz. He has already made appearances on UPN 31 Good Day Sacramento, Sacramento News & Review, KXTV News 10, 107.9 The End and KWOD 106.5.

When Leejay first heard Rahzel the “Godfather of Noyze,” he instantly fell in love with beatboxing. With the immense amount of motivation, Leejay perfected his skills and self-developed and marketed himself. Being his own boss, he researched the history and technique. Soon after, he ate, slept and breathed nothing but beatboxing. Promoting himself by posting his beatboxing audio clips on the internet paid off. Michael “Fii” Krappel, Coordinator of the First Austrian Beatbox Championship heard the clips and was so impressed by his ability that he personally invited Leejay to share his talent at the competition in Vienna, Austria. He flew back home to Sacramento as the Austrian Beatbox Champion of 2003.

Leejay’s talent assures him a successful road ahead. This young man’s beats are strictly fresh and strictly vocal. When you hear a Leejay beat it is incomparable. Leejay is inspired by the great, and motivated to be the greatest.
