Indulge – Travel, Adventure, & New Experiences

About

Traveling and extremes have encompassed my life for 30 years; from white-water rafting, skydiving, paragliding, bungee jumping, rock climbing, dog sledding, base jumping, kayaking, surfing, boogie boarding, rappelling, and caving, I’ve tried every “bucketlist” adventure I could imagine. My wedding day in Jamaica even included a little bit of rock climbing followed by a trapeze act in my gown. Now that I’m 6 months pregnant a new type of adventure awaits.  I’ve been to 33 countries and I have no intentions of stopping there. Although I think I’m going to need a baby backpack for my new way of travel, lots of adventures are still just around the corner.

BALIKBAYAN BOX: The Symbol of the Filipino People

9

I was riding the local streetcar here in Toronto, Canada when a woman came in with a folded balikbayan box. I quickly took out my camera and shot this photo: Around this time of the year, it has become a tradition for many Filipinos living abroad to send these boxes to our loved ones back [...]

Salamat, Doktor Kim!

z197325999Koreans are naturally beautiful. They are fair-skinned, generally tall, have straight, black hair. Everything we, Pinoys, dream to have. The problem is, Koreans don’t want to be just beautiful. They want to be perfectly beautiful. I think they are the most beauty-obsessed people I have ever met. As an ESL teacher for almost five years, [...]

Paskong Paksiw

Bacolod’s main street is closed on Friday and Saturday nights to witness a float parade participated in by the different barangays in the city. Shake your hips with [...]

Anong Klaseng Facebook User Ka?

Ang social networking ay hindi na lang isang fad. In fact, sa tingin ko, part na ito ng pamumuhay nating lahat sa makabagong panahon. Lahat na yata, may facebook account. I’m not saying na kung wala ka nito, hindi ka “in”. It’s just that communication plays a huge part in our daily lives. At malaki [...]

Tinadhanang Maisulat

Source: http://www.spot.phWhile exchanging jokes and pleasantries in FB, my Premz Ning and Claring got lost in the exchange of what seemed to be tagalog, but not quite. So they asked what these funny words meant since they couldn’t catch up with the rest. So this is for the many Ning’s and Claring’s who have not been [...]

Wow! Sosyal! Pa-Abroad Ka Na!

Puro English na ang salita mga tao roon at kapag bumalik siya ay baka raw di na siya marunong magtagalog. Sa isip niya rin ay tuwang tuwa siya, mukha ngang maginhawa at masaya roon. Akala rin niya magiging madali [...]

The DOJ stopped GMA at the airport as she is about to face charges for cheating the elections that brought her to presidency for the second time. The Supreme Court [...]

dcPinoy.com

:: Mission

dcPinoy aims to provide a central location where Pinoys in the DC area can reach other Filipinos, promote awareness, build comaradarie, promote charitable causes, increase political and demographic visibility, help increase Pinoy commerce, and help further strengthen an already strong and close-knit community.

dcPinoy is an attempt by an individual to help the community.  Hence, it is independently operated and does not fall under the purview or control of any Pinoy organization.

What makes our site different?
dcPinoy.com is a FREE public service to the Filipino-American community of the Washington DC area including Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC proper.

It does not try to be the mother of all Filipino websites to include the U.S, the Philippines, and all around the globe.  We have a much narrower and very focused view.  We only want to serve the community we are a part of:  the Washington DC area.  Hence, we’ve created this site specifically to serve the Filipinos who work, live, and play here in the Washington DC metro area which includes Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC.

So, now much like the other ethnic communities in our area, we have a tool we can use to help promote community awareness, bridge generations and organizations, promote fellowship, increase Pinoy commerce, and provide effective and efficient communications to help build an even stronger community.

So, feel free to use our site to your benefit.  It’s here to help you.
